Google's design-to-app tools compress that gap to a single sitting — and you do not need to be a designer or a developer to cross it.
Three tools do the work, and they hand off to each other cleanly. Here is what each is for.
Stitch: from prompt to interface
Stitch is the star. It is an AI UI design tool from Google Labs — built on technology from Google's acquisition of Galileo AI — that turns a plain-language prompt into a high-fidelity interface and hands you clean HTML and CSS. The 2026 release, Stitch 2.0, pushed it from a one-screen generator toward a real design surface, adding multi-screen generation, an infinite canvas and voice input.
Vibe Design: intent before wireframes
The idea worth internalising is Vibe Design. Instead of specifying every component up front, you describe a business objective, a desired feeling, or an inspiration — and Stitch generates several directions that match. You explore broadly, then commit. Its Voice Canvas takes this further: you talk to the canvas, it asks clarifying questions and critiques in real time, and you can say "show me three menu layouts" or "try this in a dark palette" and watch it happen. It is the design sibling of vibe coding — intent first, craft handled by the tool.
AI Studio: prototype against Gemini
Once you have an interface, you need logic and a model behind it. Google AI Studio is the playground for that — where you prototype against the Gemini API, tune prompts, and test model behaviour before writing production code. Stitch is built to export into it (and into Antigravity), so the design and the code stay in sync. The combined move — design in Stitch, wire up in AI Studio — is what collapses the old week into an afternoon.
Opal: no-code AI mini-apps
At the lightest end sits Opal, a Google Labs tool for assembling no-code AI mini-apps. You describe what the app should do and chain prompts and steps together visually, powered by Gemini. Where Stitch designs the interface and AI Studio prototypes with the API, Opal lets a non-developer stand up a small, working AI tool with no code at all — an internal helper, a content generator, a lookup assistant.
How they fit together
Think of it as a spectrum of effort. Opal for a quick no-code tool. Stitch to design a real interface from a prompt. AI Studio to prototype the Gemini logic behind it. And when the prototype needs to become production software, you graduate to Antigravity and the coding stack, or for agents, ADK and Vertex AI. Each tool hands cleanly to the next.
