Basic SEO is still the foundation
AEO doesn't replace SEO — it's built on top of it. The same four pillars that win rankings are what get you cited by AI.
Most brands aren't short
on content.
They're short on visibility that compounds — search has split into two channels at once, and every week without a plan is a week a competitor gets cited instead of you.
A real growth team has an SEO strategist, a content writer and a competitive analyst feeding them. Run Claude as all three, and the work that used to take a team takes a prompt.
Four ways to grow with

Keyword research prompt set
Using the live web, research keyword opportunities for [business / industry] targeting [country / region]. Find 20-30 keywords people search for at each stage: - Awareness (what is / why does) - Consideration (best / vs / compare) - Decision (buy / near me / pricing) For EACH keyword give: estimated intent strength (high/med/low, from SERP competitiveness), the true searcher intent, and which of our pages (if any) could target it. Output one table grouped by funnel stage. Flag the 5 highest-opportunity keywords — high intent, low apparent competition.
For our top 10 keywords from above, check BOTH: 1. Google's top 5 organic results — who ranks, what content format (blog / tool / listicle), rough word count. 2. What ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude actually say when asked [rephrase the keyword as a natural question] — do they cite us? Who do they cite? Build a table: keyword | who ranks #1 | who gets cited by AI | the gap between the two. Flag any keyword where we could realistically outrank AND get cited within 90 days.
Now automate this. Using Cowork, Schedule it to run every Monday at 8am: 1. Re-check our top 10 target keywords — Google rankings + AI-answer citations. 2. Compare to last week and flag any ranking or citation changes. 3. Scan for 3 new keyword opportunities based on what's trending in our space. Then email me a one-page keyword digest via Gmail with a "what to act on first" section. Draft it — don't send.
Tip: Claude reads the live web for every prompt — swap in your real industry, region and site to run it on real data.
What comes back: keywords, scored and mapped
Our running example — “Kopi Kita”, a fictional 14-outlet KL specialty-coffee chain — runs the keyword prompt. Claude reads the live web and hands back a scored table:
| Stage | Keyword | Intent | Target page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Awareness | what is specialty coffee | Informational | Blog |
| Consideration | best coffee subscription KL | Comparison | Landing page |
| Decision | coffee subscription pricing KL | Transactional | Pricing page |
| Gap | RM12 weekday coffee subscription | High, low comp. | — (to build) |
“RM12 weekday coffee subscription” — nobody ranks page 1 for it, and no AI engine cites anyone for it yet. Kopi Kita can take it first.
- • Asked ChatGPT "best coffee subscription Kuala Lumpur"
- • Cites: ZUS, Tealive — both mentioned by name
- • Kopi Kita: not mentioned — the target to close
Illustrative figures for teaching — not real ranking data. A live run cites every source URL.
Write once, win the snippet AND the citation
Content generation prompt set
Write an SEO + AEO optimised article on [topic / target keyword] for [audience] in [country / region]. Structure it so it works for BOTH channels: - Open with a direct 40-60 word answer to the core question (snippet + AI- citation ready) - Then expand: how it works, when to use it, examples - Add a FAQ section: 5 question-format subheadings, answered in 2-3 sentences each - Suggest 3 internal links to existing pages on [our site] and where they'd sit Target [800-1200] words. Plain language, no fluff, one clear claim per paragraph.
Review this draft: [paste article]. 1. Rewrite the opening so the first sentence alone answers the core question — no throat-clearing. 2. Check every H2/H3 — rewrite any that aren't a real question or a clear benefit statement. 3. Add schema-ready FAQ Q&As (question + concise answer) I can drop into FAQPage JSON-LD. 4. Flag anything an AI engine would find ambiguous or hard to quote cleanly, and fix it. Return the revised article plus a short list of what you changed and why.
Automate our content calendar. Every Monday, using Cowork (Schedule it): 1. Pick the next keyword from our target list [attach / reference the list]. 2. Draft a full answer-first article following our house structure (see the prompt above). 3. Suggest a title, meta description under 155 characters, and 3 internal links. Save it as a Gmail draft addressed to me for review — don't publish anything automatically.
Tip: paste your brand voice guide once and Claude keeps every draft on-tone from then on.
Same facts, restructured to win both channels
Kopi Kita needs an article on "best coffee subscription KL". Claude drafts answer-first, citation-ready copy:
"Coffee lovers in Kuala Lumpur have so many options these days, and it can be hard to know where to start when looking for a subscription that fits your lifestyle and budget..."
"A coffee subscription in KL costs RM10–18/cup depending on frequency — Kopi Kita's RM12 weekday plan is the cheapest specialty-grade option in the Klang Valley."
The answer sits in the first sentence — both Google's snippet box and an AI engine can lift this cleanly, with the price and the claim already attached.
- • Q: How much is a coffee subscription in KL? A: RM10–18/cup...
- • Q: Can I pause a coffee subscription? A: Yes, weekly...

Competitor comparison prompt set
Using the live web, research [Competitor A / B / C]'s SEO and AI-visibility performance. For EACH competitor: - Their top 10 ranking pages / topics (from what you can find via search) - What questions ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude cite them for in our space - Content format they lean on (guides, tools, comparisons, case studies) - Their strongest on-page SEO pattern (title / H1 style, structure) Output one comparison table. Cite a source for every claim.
Here's what we do: [1-paragraph description]. Using the competitor audit above: 1. List topics / keywords they rank or get cited for that we have no page on. 2. Score each gap on a 2x2: search demand x our right-to-win (do we genuinely have something better to say?). 3. Find 3 topics NOBODY in this comparison set owns well yet — true white space. Recommend the ONE content gap to fill first, and why it beats the others.
Automate this. Using Cowork, Schedule it to run on the 1st of every month: 1. Re-check [Competitor A / B / C]'s site for new content, new pages, or ranking changes. 2. Re-check what AI answer engines cite them for now vs last month. 3. Flag any new gap, or any gap we've now closed. Email me a one-page competitive digest via Gmail. Draft it — don't send.
Tip: attach real competitor URLs and Claude reads their actual pages, not just the domain name.
The landscape, mapped by rank AND citation
Our running example — “Kopi Kita”, a fictional 14-outlet KL specialty-coffee chain — runs the competitor prompt. Claude hands back a sourced table plus the open gap:
| Player | Top ranking topic | AI cited for | Content gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| ZUS | Affordable coffee KL | Cheap coffee near me | — |
| Tealive | Bubble tea delivery | Tea vs coffee | — |
| Indie specialty | Specialty coffee beans | Best coffee roaster KL | — |
| Kopi Kita | — (not yet ranking) | Not yet cited | Coffee subscription KL |
Nobody owns “specialty-grade coffee subscription” messaging for the office-lunch crowd — not in Google, not in AI answers. Kopi Kita can take it.
- • Cited in 0 / 5 target queries today
- • Ranks page 2 avg. for target keywords
- • 3 open topics no rival has claimed
Illustrative figures for teaching — not real company data. A live run cites every source URL.
Fix what's stopping Google — and AI — from reading you
Onsite improvement prompt set
Using the live web, crawl and audit [our website URL] for SEO and AI-answer readiness. Check and report on: - Title tags & meta descriptions (length, keyword presence, duplicates) - Heading structure (missing / multiple H1s, logical H2/H3 flow) - Schema markup present vs missing (Organization, FAQPage, Article, Breadcrumb) - Broken internal links or obvious thin-content pages - Anything that would make a page hard for an AI engine to quote cleanly (walls of text, no clear structure) Output a prioritised fix list — P0 / P1 / P2 — ranked by impact vs effort, not just a list of issues.
For the top 10 pages from the audit above: 1. Rewrite title tags (under 60 characters, primary keyword front- loaded) and meta descriptions (under 155 characters, one clear reason to click). 2. Draft the FAQPage JSON-LD schema for any page missing it, based on its actual content. 3. Flag any page that should be merged, redirected, or noindexed because it's thin or duplicate. Give me copy-paste-ready code for the schema, and a before/after table for the titles.
Automate this. Using Cowork, Schedule it to run on the 1st of every month: 1. Re-crawl our top 20 pages for the same checks as above. 2. Compare to last month's audit and flag what's fixed vs still open. 3. Surface any NEW issue that appeared (broken link, missing meta, etc). Email me a one-page onsite health digest via Gmail with a "fix this week" section. Draft it — don't send.
Tip: attach your real sitemap or a list of URLs and Claude audits the actual pages, not a guess.
A prioritised fix list, not a wall of issues
Kopi Kita runs the onsite audit prompt. Claude crawls the site and returns what to fix first:
| Page | Issue | Priority | Fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| /menu | Missing meta description | P0 | Add 155-char description |
| /subscription | No FAQPage schema | P0 | Add JSON-LD FAQ block |
| /about | Title tag 78 chars — too long | P1 | Trim to <60 characters |
| /blog/coffee-guide | Thin content, 220 words | P2 | Expand or merge |
2 pages missing schema entirely — these are invisible to AI answer engines even if they already rank on Google.
Before: "Home | Kopi Kita"
After: "Kopi Kita — Specialty Coffee Subscription KL from RM12/week"
